I want to tell you that now, a year later, your seminar on writing still resonates with me on a profound level. In the rush to buy the latest gear, design the coolest website, and connect with outreach partners, it was refreshing and enlightening to be reminded that a good film is made with good writing."Get the fundamentals right, first," I keep telling myself, hearing your calm, assured voice. In a week of mind-expanding ideas and great teachers, your advice rings clear. I know that whatever and whoever you touch in the future will be the better for it.
Dear Paul, (I am cc'ng Paul by email)
Your writing workshop was mesmerizing to say the least. There was a contagious feeling in the way you "talked" about writing, in your writing style, that awaken my hunger to go deeper in the craft.
The feedback you gave to my treatment "you do not want a cavalcade of horrors" stills echoes in my mind, every time I think about the documentary - which is almost constantly :) It inspired me to instill the film with uplifting moments, with fresh air. It moved me to find new life in the story, to dig out new emotional layers in the characters.
I know what awaits you is larger than the sum of the past thirty years.
All the best,
PS: I'll be knocking at your new office door :)
What he said. Your advice alone was worth the price of admission. Good luck! Hard to believe it's been a year.
