if you have time and brain power, a question

To all my very smart friends and colleagues, We are re-thinking the SUGAR LAND engagement campaign and wanted to ask for your brain power to help us re-frame our efforts.  Here’s the question: “What’s the one thing you can think of that’s easy for people to do and will help you and others take a step forward in diabetes awareness and health?”  As an example, an upcoming PBS special on animal extinction is considering a campaign to get people to plant milkweed and grow habitat for endangered…See More

Important article about journalism standards in social media

As we all feel our way through our multi-platform work, here's a reminder that journalism standards apply regardless of platform.  Interestingly, this suggests we also expand who our content providers can be by making sure all staff are trained in these protocols.  Your thoughts?  …See More

Some possible jobs?

WGBH is developing a project that, if it's greenlit, will need a line producer (preferably with live experience) and a production assistant. Boston-based, about 5-6 weeks work, likely this spring. So I thought I'd put a note here in case you knew folks who might be interested? Diversity would be a plus, of course. Have them get in touch with me and I'll pass them along to the right person.See More

Brian Knappenberger, who directed my ICE WARRIORS film last year, tells me he is staffing up for a new series, describing it as “investigative/political/civil liberties with a heavy layer of tech. It explores abuses of power mostly around technology but also subjects like privatized prisons, etc.”  I don’t know more about the project than this, but Brian is a brilliant director and his Luminant Media company does great work.  He's  looking for "pretty much the whole range of…

sad new - John Siceloff

Posted on March 10, 2015 at 9:34am 0 Comments

With great sadness I’m writing to let you know that John Siceloff passed away last Friday after battling a fast-growing cancer.  John, who taught for us at the CPB/PBS Producers Workshop at WGBH and at the special Workshop we did for Puerto Rico’s public television, was a wonderful, caring soul who’d worked for more than 20 years as an award-winning broadcast news producer, for ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS, where he launched Now with Bill Moyers.  After years of journalism in the US,…

Thanks! Yes, we've had a ton of press. You'd think that I'd know how to talk to the media (because I AM the media) but I never really learned how to be an interviewee until now. I have an Ovee screening tomorrow, and 4 more events in 4 cities in the coming week. Then I guess I should go make another show.

Hi Judith, yes.  I do know Katie.  She's great.  Her stories for Earthfix are quite good; getting some national play on Newshour.   All is well here at KCTS9.  We're a bit soggy this time of year, but looking forward to summer in June...er, July...well Septemer for sure.

Thanks for the welcome, Judith!  I've been doing a lot of kid raising and very little filmmaking in the past few years, but I'm trying to get back in the loop.  I just finished a web-based video project that I'd love to get the Producers Workshop community's advice on.  Specifically, I'm trying to drum up web traffic, and ideally find a broadcast partner.  I'll post some videos and the link to the site.  Hope you are well!
