2012 – Present Present

  • Executive Producer for NPT’s award-winning documentary series, Aging Matters, designed to open a community-based conversation about what older citizens in Middle Tennessee need to optimize their quality of life and what the community needs to do to prepare for a coming explosion in our aging population.
  • Produced, wrote and shot footage for four documentaries looking at Economics of Aging, Aging in Place & Healthy Aging, & Elder Abuse.

2014 – 2016

 

  • Executive Producer for NPT’s Veterans Coming Home efforts, a cross-platform public media campaign focused on bridging America’s military-civilian divide by telling stories, challenging stereotypes and exploring how the values of service and citizenship are powerful connectors for all Americans.
  • Produced & moderated a town hall discussion with members of Veterans Coming Home national team and local veterans exploring how to go beyond stereotypes, and build community between civilians & veterans around a universal value of service.  Conversation was streamed live via Facebook Live and OVEE with comments integrated into the studio conversation.
  • Produced or managed the production of eight stories targeted to broadening awareness around the challenges veterans and family members face as they find a new normal on the home front.
  • Developed a community engagement strategy to listen and learn from Middle Tennessee’s community of veterans.  Held informal conversations with over 200 veterans and veteran family members prior to and during production. 
  • Produced a live national town hall event around the PBS documentary, Last Days in Vietnam.  Brought Vietnam Veterans and Vietnamese Americans together in the studio to talk about the legacy of the war. The conversation was simultaneously streamed online nationwide with viewer contributions integrated into the studio production.

  • Contributing Producer for NPT’s award-winning documentary series, NPT Reports: Children’s Health Crisis, exploring health disparities among children and families living in Tennessee and examining what can be done to improve the lives of all of Tennessee’s children.
  • Produced, wrote and shot footage for four documentaries looking at Infant Mortality, Sexuality, Family Health & our relationship to Food.  
  • Oversaw the translation of the entire Children’s Health Crisis series into six languages for engagement with local immigrant and refugee communities around health issues, including Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish (Badini), Somali, Nepali and Burmese.

  • Contributing Producer for NPT’s Emmy ® Award winning Next Door Neighbors series exploring Nashville’s status as a destination city for refugees and immigrants.  The series shares stories from the rich diversity of people now calling Nashville home.
  • Produced, wrote and shot footage for six documentaries sharing perspectives of life in city from the largest Kurdish population in North America in Little Kurdistan USA, followed by documentaries exploring stories from Nashville’s Somali, Bhutanese, Sudanese and Egyptian communities.  As well as a broad look at the experiences of Latino immigrants in Hablamos Español.    
  • Helped found and implement the Next Door Neighbors | Storytellers project, which trained and equipped immigrants and refugees in Nashville to tell their own stories with simple cameras and editing equipment.  The resulting project shared over 200 stories from Nashville's immigrant and refugee communities, in their own words, by their own hands.  The channel has over 120,000 views. blogs.wnpt.org/storytellers

  • Producer & Writer, Beautiful Tennessee: Our Scenic Waterways explores the role that water has played in shaping Tennessee’s cities, the lives of its residents and our natural environment.  Journeying across the state from east to west, Beautiful Tennessee: Our Scenic Waterways highlights the passage of water from mountains to Mississippi, above and below ground, demonstrating the lyrical beauty of our river system and sharing emblematic stories from our home.  From Jack Daniels’ reliance on pure cave spring water, to 86 year old fly-fisher Shirley Caldwell-Patterson and world champion kayaker Eric Jackson, Beautiful Tennessee: Our Scenic Waterways, celebrates our most precious natural resource.  Screened for Tennessee Department of Ecology and Conservation annual conference 2007.

Living On: Tennesseans Remembering the Holocaust, 2005

Producer & Editor of hour-long documentary taken from 46 hours of interviews with Tennessee’s Holocaust Survivors and Liberating soldiers.  Made in partnership with the Tennessee Holocaust Commission, the documentary follows the creation of an accompanying exhibit of photographic portraits.  Extensive outreach including on-going screenings and lectures at universities, museums, public schools and teacher workshops across Tennessee & Kentucky has greatly extended the impact of the project.  Documentary screened in Warsaw, Poland in conjunction with exhibit in summer 2007.  Raw footage accepted to the Tennessee State Library and Archives to be maintained and migrated in perpetuity.  Aired nationally April 2009 and subsequently on PBS World.
