Costs for making Blu-Ray and Film prints for a semi-theatrical or limited theatrical run?

Hello wise colleagues,

I'm working on a budget right now and I am wondering if anybody can advise me about how much it will cost me to get the following made:

1) Blue-Ray version - both the costs for encoding and for each copy AND

2) Actual film prints... - both the transfer costs and the costs per copy.

Hi Sam,

You can find duplicators who'll make you one-off Blu-Ray for under $200. I'm using Rainbow Video in NYC this week (I haven't seen the end product yet.) If you use a big replicator/duplication firm, they'll probably require a stiff licensing fee for the Blu-Ray ($1500 or more).

When we were considering an art house run for our feature doc we got a quote of over $18,000 to make a digital intermediate before making 35mm prints... that ruled it out for us.

A number of people recommended that we distribute on Blu-Ray, but spend $2500 to get a 35mm trailer, (additional prints were a few hundred more.) This would allow our trailer to appear for several weeks at every art house we were able to book.

I could find the trailer quote for you if you're interested.

For a quote for "official" Blu-Ray replication call Brad at Disk Replicators in LA:

(The website is a little dated looking, but they're great to work with and offer excellent pricing.)

This is all great.  Super helpful!  Good idea about the trailer too.  Love it! Right now I'm just building out the budget but when we actually get to the point of making these decisions, this will absolutely be something to chew on.

Warm Regards,
